College Fashionista Style Guru

College Fashionista is a blog based website where college students post about fashion fads on their campus. They post photos of students walking around on college campuses and comment on their outfits. They also post about upcoming trends and whats hot. The website picks up quite a bit of traction especially from students considering schools. They look up schools to see trends or styles they feel they can fit in with. On the website you can filter by trend, category, or school.

Their mission statement includes"The concept – give college students a medium through which they can experience the latest college trends and where their cunning eye for fashion, photography, and self-expression can be showcased." This is something they hold true because the whole site is blogs from college students for college students.

According to the site, they have a theme for each day:
  •  Monday is STYLE ADVICE OF THE WEEK where readers learn a new tip to incorporate into their wardrobe to start off the week with style.
  •  Tuesday is STYLE GURU STYLE which focuses on our fashionable Style Gurus and how they translate the latest runway shows into their personal style.
  •  Wednesday is AROUND TOWN, an interview with an up-and-coming fashion designers, local boutique, photographer, artist or all around trendsetter on campus.
  •  Thursday is WHAT TO WEAR, where key college activities provide inspiration on what to wear to these events.
  •  Friday is ALL IN THE DETAILS, highlighting the must-have accessories, beauty trends, patterns or color for any Fashionista/o.
  •  Friday also features FASHION FROM ABROAD which showcases the fashion adventures of students studying abroad.
There is a few interns per campus and after many annoying emails from me I am finally one of them! Baltimore Fashion Week Internship

Good News! I will be interning for Baltimore Fashion Week. I am so very excited to be a part of this great program. The fashion week will be from August 14-17. I decided to do a little research on the company that runs the annual show. It is called the Fashion Umbrella Foundation. They are very geared towards philanthropic concentration on education, work-life balance, and professionalism. This will be their 7th production year. The most inspiring part of the foundation is the scholarship they offer to students at a two year or four year institution that has a GPA of 3.0 or higher.

I think the Fashion Umbrella Foundation is a very great place to be. They are very prominent in the Baltimore community and encourage educational values. I am grateful to be a part of this program!
Here's their website check it out! Also follow them on Twitter @fashumbrella

Here's a link where you can buy tickets. Come out to support some local fashion designers and big name designers. Check it out!

Spring Fashion Trends 2014

We are all looking forward to the first day of spring after what seems like the longest winter ever. More importantly we are looking forward to belly showing crop tops, open toed heels, and short shorts. Spring fashion is my favorite season for fashion. This season a lot of interesting and diverse things are in. Good news, there is something for everyone to look good in!

Here's a list of the top 8 trends for this spring:

#8: Cut- off Denim

Whenever I think about summer, I think about cut-off denim. This is such an easy and fun trend because it can be a DIY trend. You can get a cool looking pair of old jeans and cut them in your own style. You can also grab a great looking pair from almost any store. This trend is a must have this summer, show off those nice legs! We can see Kylie Jenner hanging out in a pair of cut-off denim shorts. Kylie paired it with a pair of combat boots and a plain black tee. This laid back look is easy to make and inexpensive.

#7: Sheer and Lace

Spring is the time to start showing off a little skin! A nice, sexy way to show off some skin is with some lace or sheer. Lace and sheer can be formal and informal as long as you wear it the right way. Always remember when it comes to lace and sheer, less is more! There is nothing worse than seeing parts of you I was not meant to see because you have sheer. BeyoncĂ© shows how to wear lace best at the 2014 Grammy's. The last time we saw BeyoncĂ© is when she announced her pregnancy with cute little baby Blue. When she stepped out on the Red Carpet she awed everyone with her beautiful lace gown by Michael Costello.

#6: Oversized Clothing

Oversized clothing is a trend that can either go very well, or very wrong. I'm here to make sure you are those who wear this trend very well. The idea is to balance out your oversized clothes with something form fitting. You cannot wear all oversized clothes. Maybe an oversized shirt or shorts but limit it to about one or two. These oversized shorts is another example of something you can find cheap at a thrift store and make it a DIY fashion trend. Vivienne Westwood, English fashion designer, shows off her oversized trendy style, she pairs it with a nice pair of skinny jeans.

#5: Colorful Blazers

Blazers are traditionally meant for professional wear but now a days it can be worn casually with almost anything. Blazers have a general standard look but can have many different styles. It can be oversized, have shoulder pads, have pockets, and for this Spring it can be colorful! This spring's trend is colorful blazers. They can be multi-colored or simply a whole color. We see Solange using this new trend with her beautiful multi- colored blazer by Roberto Cavalli. She pairs it with a black tank top and black shorts to make it her statement piece. It sure does make a statement!

#4: Color Blocks

This is a new trend that has some hints of 90's style in it. Color blocking is when you wear more than one block of color that is still stylish. Don't get this confused with mix matching anything because that's just tacky. Your color blocks should still be in the same color family, don't go too wild but have fun with it. It's spring, show off your colorful style! Gucci shows off this trend on the runway and celebrities like Michelle Obama, J-Lo and more joining in.

#3: Kitten Heels

I call them kitten heels, but this old fashion name is nothing like this refreshing trend. These heels are less than 5 inches but come in every style and color imaginable. They can be used for casual wear or business attire. You can catch Taylor Swift breaking out her kittens paired with a printed dress and boho jacket. This style is coming back and is a force to be reckoned with.

#2: Metallic

This futuristic style is taking over the retail stores and the runway. Metallic colors like silver, gold, and rose gold can be seen in everything from tops, bottoms, shoes, and accessories. Jennifer shows off her nice curves in a metallic gold skirt. As you can see she paired it with a simple black shirt. This trend is something you should pair with a simple solid- colored opposite. Let the metallic be your statement piece, it will definitely make some heads turn when you walk in the room.

#1: Tribal Print

This trend is something I personally love, it is so funky and cool! It is fun to wear and definitely shows off your personality. There are all different types of prints you can wear in both tops and bottoms. Teyona Taylor rocks this trend in some cute tribal print. She shows off many different styles like romper, dresses, and shirts. This will be a fun spring trend and definitely a bold statement piece.

SAG Awards

The SAG Awards took place this past weekend on January 18th. Among the many nominees some of the winners were the cast of American Hustle for outstanding performance by a cast, Matthew McConaughey for outstanding performance as male actor in a leading role, and Lupita Nyong'o for outstanding performance as a female supporting role. While the award show went quickly and the awards were well deserved, what everyone was really paying attention to was the red carpet arrivals. This red carpet definitely brought some unpredictable and surprising looks this year and started the awards season off with a bang. Stars like Kerry Washington and  Julia Roberts brought innovative looks with crop tops and jumpers. I think this sets the tone for a great year of fashion to look forward to!

My Best Dressed Nominees:

          Lupita Nyong'o
               Gucci

            Saundra Bullock
                    Lanvin
           Sophia Vergara
        Donna Karen Atelier

Lupita is the new kid on the block but she definitely came to show out. Her floor length Gucci gown had a artistic neckline that made the simple dress look fun. Her fresh face with fierce blue eye shadow worked well with the dress. Lupita did very well for her first award show and definitely set the bar high. Everyone will be expecting great things from her.

Sandra killed it as always. I am always amazed by how she never ages. She has definitely found the fountain of youth everyone is searching for. Her beautiful Lanvin gown has a high slit that shows off her tone legs that looks great in her cute pep toe heels. Her simple hair and natural makeup gives her a flawless and easy look. The only thing is I wish she had a nice necklace to top off the look.

We always expect Sofia to bring it being the hot star she is. She did not let us down on the red carpet wearing Donna Karan Atelier. The bejeweled floor length gown had a low back that caught the eye of everyone. Her glamorous necklace added a little to much for me. I would have preferred a smaller more simple necklace because she already has a powerhouse gown.

Best Dressed Winner:

    Amy Adams
    Antonio Berardi

This 39 year old American Hustle star had best dress in my opinion. Her floor length dress made by Berardi made everyone's mouth hit the ground. The one shoulder is so fierce but is not overbearing as well as that slit and low V-neck gives a little peep show. The belt brings her waist in to look slim and elegant. Her hair and the hot red lipstick gave her a Old Hollywood look that was timeless for the SAG Awards. I think this look was the perfect balance of elegance and sex appeal.

My Worst Dressed:
            MAYIM BLAIK

I think the question is not where did Mayim go wrong, but instead when did she go right? The lace top with a turtle-neck neckline is very unflattering and the lavender cloth seems to just be stuck on there. It is not hemmed correctly as you can see it is floor length in some places and not others. The train is uneven and lacks grace. Her hair looks like bed head, just simply undone. Overall the dress is just unfortunate, better luck next time Mayim.
